Nataraja outside Badami Cave no. 1

Nataraj is an Avatar or form of Lord Shiva as divine Dancer. Shiva is known for his dance form 

Tandava which has been in described in ancient texts like Uttarakamika agama etc. Shiva holds #agni, gajahasta or dandhasta mudra with a snake wrapped in one of the hands and a damaru. He stands on a lotus pedestal using only one leg and usually left leg is lifted in air. Clicked in March 2015, this picture is from Cave One of Badami. The mural is about 1 and a half meter tall with 18 arms. 

Ganesha is near his feet and the Nandi - the bull can be seen behind him. Today is celebrated as International Dance Day which Is celebrated as Global Celebration of dance. Although the day is celebrated to honor Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of Modern Ballet, I think it would be appropriate to remember the most ancient god of Dance

शिवराई , छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या स्वराज्यातील एक चलन.या नाण्यावर एक बाजूला श्री राजा शिव आणि दुसऱ्या बाजूला छत्र पती असा मजकूर असतो. पेशवाई च्या काळात देखील हे नाणे पाडले जायचे त्यास दुदांडी असे म्हणले जात असे.तसेच शिवकाळातील शिवराईवर छोट्या बिंदूंचे कडे पण असते.साधारण या नाण्याचे वजन ११ ते १२ ग्रॅम च्या आसपास असते.प्रामुख्याने शिवराई हे चलन छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या राज्याभिषेका नंतर पाडले गेले. 

Shivrai, is a coin minted by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj after his coronation in 1674 AD. One side of the coin has inscribtion of "Shri Raja Shiv" on a side and "chhatra Pati" on the reverse side. The coin was minted even during Peshwa period and used to bear two parralel line and was known as "Dudandi". The some coins from Shiv Chhatrapati era was also have dotted edges. The coin was made from copper and weighs around 11 to 12 gms. The coin was in circulation until late 1900 century.

Indology is study of the literature and cultures, languages, and history of India and also that it is a subset of Asian studies.

The origins of Indology can be dated back to 350 to 290 BC when a greek diplomat - Megasthenes visited Chandragupta Maurya. Megasthenes composed a four volume "Indica". 

More than 1000 years later, Muhammad ibn Ahmad Al- Biruni complied his research as "Tarikh Al-Hind". 

This Ancient civilization has always amused people across the globe and within equally.  

I am thrilled to have documented several locations through my blog and through my lense. This blog is an attempt to describe several murals - sculptures, paintings - Frescos etc.
